Olivers Battery Celebrates Greening with the gift of a bike
A movement to engage local people in the issues around climate change, Greening Olivers Battery has celebrated the first phase of success with the award of a bike as a result of a prize draw. Local Olivers Battery shop, Peter Hansford Cycles supported the Greening movement by offering one of their bikes as a prize with a value of about £185. Local resident Bill Laishley was the proud winner. See photo on Gallery page.
“I’m delighted with the bike,” says Bill. “It will be good to get fitter and I can use it instead of the car for short journeys.” Mark Alexander who manages the Olivers Battery Cycle Centre was very happy to support the Greening movement in Olivers Battery. “It’s about local people making small but permanent changes to their lives to address some of the activities that produce the greenhouse gases that contribute to global warming,” commented Mark. “As a local supplier of cycles, we are always trying our best to improve people’s enjoyment and health and help them do their bit for the environment too.”
Greening Olivers Battery held the celebration at the school hall on 22nd November and many local residents came despite the cold weather and the alternatives of Christmas shopping. The next phase will be to start to plan further activities that the whole community can engage with. This will save energy and reduce CO2 emissions.
